Katherine began playing the oboe at the age of 14 in Northamptonshire before moving to Edinburgh in 2010 to study at St Mary’s Music School with Joe Houghton. After graduating in 2017 with first class honors from the undergraduate course at the Royal Academy of Music, Katherine continued her studies on the Academy’s Master of Arts course. During her time at the Academy she has learnt with Christopher Cowie, Ian Hardwick and Celia Nicklin, and cor anglais with Sue Bohling and Jill Crowther.
Katherine is an active orchestral musician and has appeared with orchestras including Philharmonia Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. She was recently selected to participate in the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Martin Musical Scholarship Fund Instrumental Fellowship Programme 2018-19 and in the past has been a member of the 2017/18 London Philharmonic Orchestra Foyle Future First Development Scheme as well as the 2015 London Symphony Orchestra Wind Academy.
She is the recipient of numerous awards, including all three of the Academy oboe and cor anglais prizes, as well as awards from the Dewar Arts Awards, the Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarships Trust, the Harold Craxton Memorial Trust and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust who have all supported her through her studies. Katherine has also recently been selected as a Countess of Munster Musical Trust Recital Scheme Artist through which she will continue to expand her solo and chamber playing.
Irena Radić
British pianist Irena Radić is currently studying with Dina Parakhina for her Master of
Performance degree as a scholar at the Royal College of Music, London. She is also
generously supported by the St Marylebone Educational Foundation, and is a Help
Musicians UK Postgraduate Award Holder and a Philharmonia MMSF Piano Fellow. She
holds a First Class Bachelor of Music degree from the RCM, having studied with Niel
Immelman. Whilst a student at the RCM’s Junior Department, Irena was generously
supported by the Tsukanov Family Foundation, the Wolfson Foundation and the Else and
Leonard Cross Charitable Trust. A multiple prizewinner, she was a finalist in the Bromsgrove
International Musicians Competition 2018, and won second prize in the RCM’s Kendall
Taylor Beethoven Competition 2018. An avid chamber musician, this year she will be
working with musicians including Martin James Bartlett, Jonatan Bougt, Sirius Chau, David
López Ibañez, Julia Liang and Deni Teo. Concerts in 2019 include performances of
Schumann’s Humoreske Op.20, Shostakovich’s Piano Trio no.2 in E minor, Poulenc’s Sonata
for Flute & Piano, Prokofiev’s Five Melodies Op.35 for Violin & Piano, and with Swedish
Guitarist Jonatan Bougt, their own arrangements of Shostakovich’s 24 Preludes Op.34 for
Guitar & Piano duo.
