Saturday 14 September 2019

Katherine Bryer – Oboe
Irena Radić –  Piano

Katherine is yet another of the young artists perceived by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust to have the qualities which distinguish those destined to have a glittering future and we are grateful to the Trust for its sponsorship of this concert.   A first-class honours graduate from the Royal Academy of Music she collected, among many other awards, all three of the Academy’s oboe and cor anglais prizes.

Irena’s first-class honours come from the Royal College of Music to which she has added numerous distinctions both in the UK and overseas in her roles as soloist and chamber musician.

Katherine and Irena will be playing a wide variety of pieces both together and solo.

This is a Countess of Munster Trust sponsored concert

The Ruisi String Quartet

Because of the covid-19 emergency, this concert has sadly been cancelled

Alessandro Ruisi         –  Violin                        Oliver Cave  –  Violin
Luba Tunnicliffe          –  Viola                         Max Ruisi     –  ‘Cello

This brilliant string ensemble includes two artists who have delighted Curry Rivel Music audiences before.   Alessandro charmed us in 2014 as a Countess of Munster Trust sponsored violinist, and Luba has twice appeared as the sublime viola player of the Pelléas Ensemble.   Alessandro founded the quartet in 2012 with his brother Max and they, Luba and Oliver have established a reputation as a charismatic and expressive ensemble delivering performances which are “…. strikingly immediate, committed and direct” – winning the Royal Philharmonic Society’s award for Young British String Players.

Friends’ Evening with Stetson University

Because of the covid-19 emergency, this concert has sadly been cancelled

This will be a free concert for everyone, with a Buffet Supper for the Friends of Curry Rivel Music afterwards.

The orchestra is primarily a string orchestra, and the university is an undergraduate university, so the students spend four years as undergraduates, during which time they will have covered a broad spectrum of the string orchestra repertoire. With a few exceptions, the players are majoring in music but there are also others who are doing a digital arts degree or double majoring with subjects such as English, psychology or political science, and some stay a fifth year to do an MBA. In the USA the education system steers people towards graduate study after their undergraduate studies and typically students from Stetson will go to universities or conservatories such as New England, Boston, Yale, University of Michigan, Maryland, New York, Cincinnati, and Indiana among others.
