About The Thorne Trio

All three graduates of the Royal College of Music, the members of the Thorne Trio, have been together since 1999.   Their numerous individual outstanding successes while at college have been matched and surpassed since they joined forces, although each of them has a career independent of their ensemble.

As a trio they have played in much of Europe, while their UK engagements have taken them to places as diverse as Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Grays Inn and the Dorchester Hotel, apart altogether from all the usual venues to which virtuoso artistes gravitate.

Much of their musical energy is dedicated to education and community work which has involved them with the Yehudi Menuhin Scheme, Live Music Now!, Wigmore Hall Community and Education Department and many other such organisations, giving demonstrations, workshops and concerts to people of all ages throughout the UK.

Cecilia McDowall’s “Century Dances”, which we shall hear, was composed for the Trio and premiered by them at St George’s, Brandon Hill in 2005.   It is written to appeal not only to the concert audience but to those whom the Trio touch in their outreach work.
